Subject: The Black Mental Health Manifesto — will you back it?

I want to share something with you. Black people are detained under the Mental Health Act at 3.6 times the rate of white people, and only 6% of Black adults receive treatment for mental health problems, compared with 13% of White British adults. The Black Mental Health Manifesto sets out 23 evidence-based recommendations to end this — written by and for Black communities.

Read it at www.bmhwa.co.uk. If it speaks to you: sign the pledge, share it with your networks, and if you are part of an organisation, consider endorsing it. This is how structural change starts.

Write to your MP

Your elected representative needs to hear from you. Mental health reform, equitable funding for Black-led organisations, and the implementation of manifesto recommendations are all issues your MP can act on.

Dear [MP name],

I am writing to ask you to support the recommendations in the Black Mental Health Manifesto, published by the Black Mental Health and Wellbeing Alliance. Black people are detained under the Mental Health Act at nearly four times the rate of white people, yet only 6% receive treatment compared to 13% of White British adults. The Manifesto sets out 23 evidence-based recommendations to close this inequity gap. I urge you to read it and champion its demands in Parliament.
